AT THE MUSEUM

MOST SHIPS SAILING BETWEEN Australia and Europe in the 19th century were made in Britain, Scandinavia or America. There were very few was built for Edward Wadley of Balmain at the Macleay River in New South Wales in 1874. The ship was used as a trader along the east coast of Australia. Sadly, it was wrecked off Tasmania in 1901, but the ship’s figurehead survives in the Maritime Museum of Tasmania.
