CANARY COUNCIL the annual general meeting of the canary council was held on April 10 at 10.30am at the Fieldhead Hotel, Markfield, Leicestershire.

Attendance was affected by Covid-19 and clashes with other club meetings but representatives from the Lizard Canary Association, Blue Lizard Club, Norwich, Fife and Old Varieties sections ensured a good discussion group. Apologies due to Covid-19 from the chairman, Barry Mills of the Yorkshire Canary Club, were contained in a written report distributed at the commencement of the meeting in which he thanked the officers of the Canary Council, especially the secretary/treasurer Chris Smith, for their commitment and hard work and all those present for attending. He highlighted a number of agenda items and urged the meeting to make decisions in the best interests of the fancy as a whole.

President Maurice O’Connor of the Irish Canary Fancy was also unable to attend but the meeting sent him best wishes. Business got underway with David Allen, vicechairman, in the chair.

The secretary introduced the first item of business which was an application by the Fife Fancy Federation (FFF) to affiliate to the Canary Council and be recognised by the council and the National Council for Aviculture (NCA) as the lead organisation for the Fife Fancy in the UK. After discussion of the current issues between the FFF and the Fife Canary Council (FCC) the application was approved.

It should be noted that after the AGM, a reconciliation between the FFF and the FCC was announced on Facebook by the chairmen of both
