Walton’s Cello Concerto
Rising cellist Laura van der Heijden joins the BBC National Orchestra of Wales live at Snape Maltings to revisit Walton’s captivating Cello Concerto – the piece which won her the BBC Young Musician title in 2012. We’ll also be treated to Elizabeth Maconchy’s coronation tone poem, Proud Thames, and Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 10. Radio 3 in Concert: 16 June, 7.30pm
Celebrating Belinda Sykes
Hannah French celebrates the extraordinary musician Belinda Sykes, the vibrant leader of medieval folk ensemble Joglaresa who died last year. We’ll hear tributes from her colleagues and collaborators, and landmark recordings from across her boundary-breaking career. Early Music Show: 19 June, 2pm
