Finessing the Frog
KYLE WELCHER OWNS several dozen Spro Bronzeye frogs, but when the company released a new model at ICAST, he instantly knew it would deepen his topwater repertoire. Fundamentally, the Bronzeye Pop 40 has the same basic design as its size 70, 60 and 50 relatives, but for this diminutive amphibian imposter, less is more.
By the numbers, the Spro Bronzeye Pop 40 measures 1 1/2 inches, weighs 1/5 ounce and carries a 1/0 Gamakatsu EWG double hook. Compare that to the standard Bronzeye Pop 60 — 2 3/8 inches, 1/2 ounce — and we’re talking a specialized player, a real departure from the four-wheel-drive jungle duties common to larger frogs.
