Deck the house

TOH Reader: Darin Frerichs, St. Francis, WI

This deck is one of many projects I’ve designed and built for our house. I used varied-width composite boards and a cable-rail assembly; the frame is made of pressure-treated wood with butyl-tape protection on top. There’s a hidden door near the bottom of the stairs to access waterproof underdeck storage, which we use in winter. We’re very happy with has inspired me to build simply, but with a powerful outcome.
