Pure and simple

According to researchers at Germany’s Max Planck Institute – whatever that is – The Beatles’ Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da is the perfect pop song. It’s apparently something to do with the placement of the chords, and the levels of joy they bring to the ears of the listener.

If those researchers applied similar principles to , I’m certain they’d draw the same conclusion as is literally perfect, and arguably has never been bettered. I’ve surely argued before in this column that Taito’s 1978 arcade classic is the single greatest videogame of all time. Not because it was first in so very many ways, but because of its purity. It’s utterly peerless.
