Three in one

I regularly paint at West Wittering in West Sussex, but I’d never painted a triptych before, and certainly not a large one, on location, ! I thought it would be too difficult, impractical and too much of a logistical challenge, but one day I gave it a bit more thought. How would I actually do it? In the studio I have several easels joined together, allowing me to place the three canvases together in a row. Outside that wasn’t an option; the canvases would need to be joined. I found some old stretchers in the studio and used them to secure all three canvases together at the back (page 40). I screwed each piece of wood to the canvases so that it was fairly rigid and, to an extent, would be wind resistant.
