MERCEDES

Formula E’s reigning champion team, Mercedes joined the series in 2019 and immediately replicated its winning ways from Formula 1, taking both titles in the 2020-21 season. Nyck de Vries is the reigning drivers’ champion, having secured the title at last year’s Berlin finale. The Dutchman, who was Formula 2 champion in 2019, collected two wins on the way to winning a close contest for the Formula E spoils by seven points.

Former McLaren F1 driver Stoffel Vandoorne has been a consistent frontrunner since joining the series, and has taken pole twice this season in the opening six races. One of those was at the Diriyah season opener, where de Vries immediately picked up from last year’s success, taking victory as Vandoorne’s error arming attack mode meant he had to complete the Mercedes 1-2.

Following his victory in Monaco, Vandoorne now leads the standings. The Belgian started from fourth in Monte Carlo, cleared polesitter Mitch Evans, and benefited from the varying misfortunes of Pascal Wehrlein and Jean-Eric Vergne to take a lead he did not relinquish. De Vries, meanwhile, endured a more difficult weekend but was able to take a point for 10th place, helping Mercedes to retain first in the teams’ standings in its final season before it departs Formula E at the end of the year.
