CHRISTCHURCH’S DALE WYLIE captured people’s attention. Then teenaged enthusiast Glenn Ducey recalled the summer of 1969-70 battles with international Ron Grant taking on top locals Trevor Discombe and Geoff Perry.
“Into the mix was thrown Wylie, aboard the ex-Neville Landrebe Lyster-Matchless G50,” Ducey said. “Scruffy black leathers, a tatty Stadium jet helmet and Mk I goggles. He chased Grant and Perry assiduously, laying the thing over to insane angles and sliding luridly on worn-out tyres. Sensational!
