Film-maker Kriv Stenders has spent a fair amount of time pondering Australia’s past, present and personality, whether in features such as his two Red Dog movies, or his Sam Neill-fronted documentaries about Anzac history and the arrival of Captain Cook.
More recently, he has dug into its music history. Firstly, there was about the band he first became friends with as a teenager in Brisbane of the early 80s. Then after his 2019 Vietnam War film and a doco about Aussie petrolhead hero Peter Brock, he delivered , his touching portrait of Slim Dusty and power-behind-the-throne songwriter wife Joy McKean.
