Experts’ advice

David Brown 1290

Q We run a DB 1290, and until recently it has been problem free. Last week I noticed oil leaking from one of the rear axle units behind the rear wheels and wondered what course of action to take.

We have regularly serviced the tractor since we bought it two years ago, but have never checked the rear axle, assuming the transmission oil lubricates it when we’ve topped it up. A friend has informed us that the oil for the axle units is separate.

My questions are; how difficult is it to replace the oil seal and what grade of oil should we use when replenishing?
