Although fashion label Rixo founders Orlagh McCloskey and Henrietta Rix can no longer shout ideas through their bedroom walls in the middle of the night, they do live a five-minute walk from each other.
Employing their love of thrift to create printed silk dresses with flattering silhouettes and a vintage sensibility, the best friends launched the brand in 2015. They designed pieces that they wanted to wear; and it wasn’t long before the British press had picked up on these well-cut, affordable designs, with prints hand-painted in-house by Orlagh.
“It genuinely was the press that really believed in us, even before we had wholesalers or real customers,” Orlagh says. “A lot of people in the fashion realm loved Rixo.” A pretty remarkable achievement considering the duo were freshly graduated from the University of Arts, and had no contacts in the industry at the time.
