Doyle’s Guineas double
QIPCO Newmarket Guineas Festival, Cambridgeshire
RACING has had a run of feelgood results this spring headlined by Sam Waley-Cohen’s Grand National and Rachael Blackmore’s Gold Cup. Then Newmarket picked up that baton, providing terrific stories to go with winners of both the QIPCO 2000 and 1000 Guineas at the weekend.
The pool of people who have won a Classic is pretty small, but a few new names were added this weekend with an emotional James Doyle finally breaking his Classic duck on Godolphin’s Coroebus in the 2000. And while he might liken them to London buses after winning the 1000 a day later, his victory on Cachet provided 30-year-old trainer George Boughey and owners Highclere Thoroughbred Racing with their domestic Classic breakthroughs.
