TELL A STORY WITH DOCUMENTARY PHOTOGRAPHY

Most of us will have heard the term ‘documentary’ but how does it relate to photography? Documentary is a term that is used to define anything that pertains to documenting real-life information. Documentary photography uses images to provide a factual report on a given subject and often contains a series of images that tell a complete story.

WHAT IS DOCUMENTARY PHOTOGRAPHY?

As I said above, documentary photography uses photographs to tell a factual story, generally capturing events in real time. Documentary photography is not posed or staged but does look to depict factual events in a creative fashion.

Focusing on social, cultural or humanitarian issues, documentary photography isn't usually manipulated in post production in order to keep work authentic. There is a certain crossover with photojournalism,
