rained by Paul Perry, Choisir had his first race start at Warwick Farm on 22 September 2001 in the AJC Breeders Plate. Starting at $12, the colt settled towards the rear but stunned onlookers as he swamped the field when ridden by Len Beasley. He was surprisingly beaten at his next two starts at Rosehill and Canterbury both times being beaten less that a half-length after settling back in the field. Choisir then won the Inglis Classic adding over $300,000 to his prizemoney tally on 19 January 2002
