CARLISLE CAGE BIRDS auction of birds on May 6 at Warwick-on-Eden Memorial Hall, Carlisle CA4 8PF, 6.30pm. Doors open at 5pm, auction to start at 6.30pm. Cage birds only, no quail. DEFRA rules apply. Two birds per cage. Seed and water in clean cages. Enquiries: 07840 617 390

GATESHEAD & NEWCASTLE BS the March 9 meeting was scheduled as a nest feather show but due to Avian Flu (Al) restrictions and two prevention/surveillance zones covering the Tyneside area, the event was cancelled. Instead, a general discussion took place on the Defra guidance and compliance, and the letters that were sent to homeowners by local authorities with regards the Al, and the impact of Al on the fancy in general.

The meeting concluded with a discussion on the show which is scheduled for September 3 and will be held in Swalwell Community Centre. Gold patronage has been provided by the Budgerigar Society who
