IN RECENT YEARS the best way for manufacturers to increase performance has been through the ECU. Engine development is almost at its peak and the ASBK is production-based, so the superbike you purchase off the showroom floor is already very, very capable – to the point where engine builders are nearly obsolete. But lap times continue to tumble and it is mostly due to fine tuning parameters via the ECU.
