His second poetry bio in a row – following 2016’s ethereal Emily Dickinson tale, – this Siegfried Sassoon story has a very different tone. Famed for his poems expressing the horrors he saw in the trenches of World War 1, Sassoon’s veneration as an artist is of less interest to Davies than his inner life – in particular, the difficulties he had accepting he was gay.
