I have an exercise for you.

Writing from scratch reminds you that you have mastered some of the craft of storytelling – and aren’t just beholden to your muse’s whim. One of the methods I use is to do a 10-minute or 20-minute writing exercise, where I jump into a story and just go. A number of these cold starts have been published, some in multiple languages, because they came to life. The others were practice.
