Encounter at Sannaspos

It was 31 March 1900, and the large column of General Robert Broadwood’s brigade was trudging along the road from Thaba ‘Nchu towards Bloemfontein. Ahead lay the Modder River drift and, further on, the sloping banks leading down into the Koringspruit, a tributary with a shallow drift. The stage was set for one of the most intriguing battles of the Second Boer War (1899 to 1902), which pitted Broadwood against General Christiaan de Wet.
