CARBON CONSCIOUS

Plastic-free, waterless, upcycled ingredients – there’s a lot to consider when it comes to how sustainable a beauty product is, but perhaps the biggest part of the eco puzzle is its carbon footprint.

The beauty industry is incredibly carbon-intensive. Manufacturing and distribution are the main culprits, but the supply chain – sourcing ingredients and packaging components – also plays a major part.

“A weighty material such as glass is infinitely recyclable, which is great, however it’s incredibly carbon-intensive to produce, distribute and recycle,” says Elsie Rutterford, co-founder of London-based natural skincare company BYBI,
