Electronic rider assistance has come a long way on motorcycles in the past five or so years, especially on adventure bikes. I say especially on adventure bikes because we are lucky enough to now have off-road calibrated systems that work extremely well off the sealed road, and well enough that you will be hard pressed to justify de-activating them for most of your riding.
Like anything, though, the best plan of attack is to understand how they work, what they do to assist you, and then make an informed choice that works best for you personally. Most manufacturers have on- and off-road electronics on their adventure bikes now, but I will base this editorial on the BMW GS bikes that I have the most experience with.
