Beat / According to the label info, your new album „Memoria“seems to exist at the confluence of inspiration, coincidence, and maybe even a little bit of the supernatural. What’s your relationship with the supernatural?
Anders / For me it‘s more of a metaphor, for all the things that make great music. I like my music to have different layers, and because of the darkness, it‘s also nice to have some kind of spooky elements in the sounds. That also applies to the vocals, for example, which have something ghostly about them. But in contrast, there are also very bright, uplifting parts. I guess it‘s exactly these contrasts that make up my music and have fascinated me ever since.
Beat / But isn‘t songwriting also an attempt to connect with the supernatural and draw inspiration from the ether?
No, not necessarily (laughs). But I definitely think something magical happens when you‘re inspired. Most of the time I have a hard time reaching that special state where the music just flows. Then I struggle with composing something that gives me goosebumps myself. After all, I don‘t want to repeat myself. But when I reach that state, it‘s extremely easy for me to come up with melody lines or chord progressions. My main instrument is
