As the curtain came down on the Six Nations and the balloon went up in England, Scotland and Wales, across the water in France they sat back and ordered another bottle.

Les Bleus won the tournament for the first time since 2010 and did so with a Grand Slam. If any of you were not paying attention you really should have been.

The Six Nations is (for now) a purely northern hemisphere affair but the outcome of this one has global implications. Make no mistake about that.

For the first time bookmakers now make France clear favourites for the Rugby World Cup they themselves stage next year.

England’s odds were eased and Eddie Jones faced calls for his sacking as the world’s richest and best resourced rugby nation finished with more defeats than wins for the third time in five championships.
