Mai Oh Mai
In the early hours of the morning we launched the boat in one of those little out-of-the-way places that is only visited by opening weekend hunters and the odd die-hard hard-core waterfowler in the remainder of the season.
The reason that it’s not visited as much as it should be is because it never holds a huge number of waterfowl and it can be a fair bit of a mission to hunt at times.

In the shelter of the ramp there was no perceivable wind, but once we reached the open water there was, in fact, a pretty brisk south-easterly. A good wind was just what the doctor ordered, but not from this particular direction.
On reaching the maimai we had planned to use we soon realised it was not a goer. The wind was blowing straight towards us and it was unlikely that ducks would decoy to this spot in the conditions.
A lightening sky saw us hurrying back towards the ramp and to a more sheltered spot. If I had been hunting by myself
