THE United Nations has described climate change as the defining issue of our time. Extreme weather events are fast becoming an uncomfortable “new normal” across the world. In recent months we have seen scorching heat in Canada, wildfires in Australia and the Americas, and devastating floods in Germany, India and China. Horses living in the areas affected by wildfires have suffered catastrophic burns and lung damage from smoke inhalation.

We are not immune to extreme weather events in the UK. Flooding is predicted to have a significant impact on infrastructure in this country, causing damage to buildings and wide-scale disruption.
