During this winter’s layup of Greyfin, I decided to treat her to a complete overhaul of the raw water cooling system. Greyfin is an Antares 8 powered by a Nanni 200hp turbo diesel inboard engine with 400 hours on the clock. She is also seven years old and therefore due for some of those big-ticket maintenance items listed in the operator’s manual.

I do confess to being a little wary of manufacturers’ recommended service schedules. For example, Nanni suggests I strip the cooling system every two years whereas Volvo suggests five years – yet both suggest a running interval of about 1000hrs! So there seems to be some flexibility
