One thing Kodak was always good at was launching a new type of camera with a new kind of film, then watching as other manufacturers made similar cameras – resulting in more film sales for Kodak. The firm did it in 1963 with 126 cartridge film for the Kodak Instamatic, and did it again in 1972 with 110 film for the Pocket Instamatic. Both were tremendously successful. When Kodak tried it a third time with Disc cameras in 1982, the result was, well, it would be unfair to call it a total failure. At first it was a tremendous success. It just didn’t have the staying power of its predecessors.
