1 NSW MID NORTH COAST: Dirty water tactics

fter dirty flood water running many kilometres out to sea and big swells closing down most river bars for several weeks, I took a chance to get out between swells and try for spotted mackerel by trolling livebaits close to the headland washes. Unfortunately, no mackerel were up to play but we did find several hefty kawakawa (mackerel tuna) willing to nail our slow-trolled slimy mackerel livebaits. Among a number of others, my wife Linda caught a huge specimen of 9kg, giving us plenty of fillets to salt down for reef fishing baits later on.
