HEINIGER'S MANOUEVERS

In September last year a young guy with a big smile and some serious bike skills stood with two other Kiwis at the top of the UCI Trophy of Nations podium. They were awarded prestigious rainbow jerseys and gold medals, thus becoming New Zealand’s latest world champions.

It was an accomplishment that went relatively unnoticed by mainstream media outlets infatuated with the Rugby World Cup. After all, this was New Zealand’s Junior (Under 21) team, not the Elites, and Christchurch’s Nils Heiniger, John Richardson (Rotorua) and Brady Stone (Golden Bay) aren’t exactly household names.
