Pigeon pointer
I have just read Robin Scott’s article in the March issue (Pigeons at any price?) about the potential implications of non-toxic shot and crop protection and it was thought-provoking stuff. Robin claimed that the prohibitive cost of steel-shot cartridges (starting at 32p per squib) would put pigeon decoying beyond the pocket of most pigeon shooters, especially with the birds returning such low prices at the game dealers. Admittedly a 50% increase in the cost of steel-shot ammo is not easily swallowed, but I think most pigeon shooters will look at the issue logically.
