LEGACY AND LORE OF THE HERER FAMILY

Being raised by “The Emperor of Hemp” himself, Jack Herer—Dan Herer’s path is anything but ordinary. Today Dan is most well known as an industrial hemp developer and entrepreneur, frequently operating in the hemp and cannabis flower spaces. Dan is founder and director of the Jack Herer Foundation and Herer Group, a corporate umbrella of several brands over the years such as Herer Distribution, Herer Manufacturing and Herer Labs & Research—all named after his father.

The Herer name is more or less synonymous with cannabis reform, or more specifically—education about the history of cannabis and the way the plant was systematically oppressed throughout time.

As you might guess, activism was embedded into Dan’s routine early on. He remembers memories of his unusual upbringing, such as attending rallies or camping out on the lawn of Capitol buildings.

Like his father, Dan hopes to educate people on the historical oppression of cannabis in its many forms. He carries the torch of his late father Jack, known throughout the world as the “Hemperor” or the “Emperor of Hemp.” Jack’s most widely-known book, The Emperor Wears No Clothes—now in its umpteenth edition after over 35 years of reprints—is often considered a catalyst for change that would eventually help lead to legislative changes for hemp around the world.

Dan would be the first to tell you that banned books are often the best books. From the get-go, very few mainstream publishers were willing to take on his father’s greatest work. And when discussing the importance of hemp farmers, he gets almost emotional.
