Mauna Kea Game Bird Hunting Recap

he fiscal 2022 upland game bird hunting season began November 6, 2021, and concluded on January 30, 2022. During the available 52-daylong hunting season, a total of 1,929 game birds were reportedly taken in 2,522 hunter trips, for an average seasonal hunter success ratio of 0.76 birds taken per hunter trip made. Erckel’s francolins (1,286), chukers (176), California valley quail (149), and wild turkeys (60 toms and 40 hens) comprised 90 percent of the species harvested.
