Martin Watts looks at the history of Bluebird campers

Recently, I spotted a post on social media from someone who owned an early Bluebird Highwayman, noting that some of the answers given to the query were either wrong, and/or a little misleading given the history of Bluebird, Ci/Motorised, Ci/ Autohomes and, later, simply Autohomes.

So many UK converters disappeared from the scene in the early days, but some of those pioneering builders did stand the test of time, including Devon Conversions, AutoSleepers, Dormobile and, of course, the aforementioned Ci concern based in Poole.

Bluebird Caravans had introduced its Highwayman motorhome in 1958, based on the Austin 152/J2.
