Get away for... THE WEEKEND!
With neither of us having done much travelling in Scotland, we were tentatively dipping our toes, so to speak, into Scotland’s seaside towns and coastline. After a pit stop in Perth, we headed into the East Neuk of Fife, to a beach stopover we had identified. The word ‘neuk’ is Scots for nook or corner and the name seems very appropriate for this picturesque part of Fife. It’s full of quaint and colourful fishing villages now, but was once a major part of Scotland’s fishing industry.
Kingsbarns Beach (aka Cambo Sands) is surrounded by golf courses, which this stretch of coastline is famous for. The beach is wonderful: unspoilt and seemingly stretching for miles. Amazing rock formations are covered at high tide, leaving a myriad of rock pools to explore once the sea has gone out.
The only facilities are public toilets and a daytime snack bar but, for an off-grid stopover for a couple of nights, it was perfect. It’s a 20-minute walk into the nearby
