THE LAZARUS PROJECT

How far would you go to save a loved one? What happens to ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances? What would you do if you could relive your life? Classic dilemmas, but for everyman George (I May Destroy You’s Paapa Essiedu), they come with a distressing sting in the tale: correcting past mistakes could bring about the end of the world.

, an eight-part thriller from Joe Barton (creator of the brilliant ), begins with George on a roll. It is 1 July, and he wakes), before heading off to secure financial backing for his start-up app; pregnancy, marriage and prosperity follow, before a pandemic hits and panic spreads. Then George wakes up again, next to Sarah on 1 July and everyone acting as if nothing has happened, with only George suspecting something is off. Things play out rather differently once, and then twice, before he is recruited by The Lazarus Project, a secret organisation with the power to reset time back to the checkpoint day of 1 July in order to avert extinction-level events. After a year passes, the new 1 July becomes the new checkpoint, making it impossible to go further back.
