Sky’s much trumpeted ‘Whole New Ball Game’ proved ominous for Liverpool, as a Teddy Sheringham-inspired Nottingham Forest mark the broadcaster’s first live game with a 1-0 defeat of the Reds. They end the first Premier League campaign in sixth place, equalling the previous season’s pitiful effort as the club’s worst finish since 1964-65. Noted shrinking violet manager Graeme Souness (right) decides his team are too soft, so signs hardmen Julian Dicks and Neil Ruddock. The duo go on to develop little more than their own waistlines at Anfield, however.
