FOR BETTER, FOR WORSE
■ Changes for the better (re: March’s editorial): Front and rear suspension, 29in wheels, 12-speed transmissions, dropper posts, tapered steerers etc, all make modern bikes hugely more capable, which has opened up terrain that was previously unrideable.
■ Changes for the worse: Increased complexity means more to go wrong and requires significantly more maintenance and therefore cost and time, plus it’s not a cheap hobby and this will no doubt deter many.
Could manufacturers perhaps address this? Lubrication ports in pedals (Tioga), forks (Pace), hubs
