HE was my horse of a lifetime – the most athletic, quick, sharp horse you would want to ride. But my goodness, he was a personality, which made him more fun.

He finished second to Pippa Funnell at Badminton twice and when he finally won it in 2004, it was a relief. I thought that if I couldn’t win it on Tamarillo, I never would.

It was thanks to Mark Todd I got the ride. When Toddy was giving up, he advised the Guinnesses to send their horses to me, so I was invited to look round their Biddesden Stud and spotted a young Tamarillo.
