OpenDNS

Two of the most important lessons I’ve learned from more than three decades of computing are: you can never have too much security, and it’s worth going that extra mile to make your internet more reliable. That’s why I use OpenDNS (www.opendns.com) on my home network.

OpenDNS is an alternative Domain Name System (DNS). All computers use DNS servers, which are like internet directories., for example. In the background, your computer asks the DNS server what the IP address of the website is, and connects using this information.
