My earliest reading memory
y sister and I had measles very young. In those days there was no vaccine against it. We both lay in bed in a darkened room. My mother sat in the doorway where there was light and read to us., by William Nicholson, was one I remember. They got up to mischief. Mum would hold the book up so we could see, through red and swollen eyes, the black-faced twins in their stripy tops. I have just looked up the title to make sure I was remembering correctly. There they were, just as I remember, 80 years ago. It was selling for US$1500!
