STANDARD ISSUE

The Karabiner 98 k, more commonly known as the K98 in collecting circles, is one of the most sought-after rifles on the collectable firearms market. It’s a direct descendant of the legendary Gewehr 98, the standard-issue rifle for most German troops during World War I and the first mass-produced rifle on the Mauser 98 action, which is still regarded by many as the gold standard. Like the G98 during World War I, the K98 was the standard-issue rifle for the German military during World War II. It was produced in the millions beginning in the 1930s, while production temporarily ceased following Germany’s surrender in 1945.

The K98 was preceded by several different 98 carbines including the. Ballistically, the 7.92x57 cartridge performed almost identically when fired from the carbines. The carbines were also handier and lighter. By the 1930s, the carbines became standard.
