Ships in the Age of Elegance: The Art of Chromo-Lithographic Printing

David Eeles

This well-produced book contains reproductions of chromo-lithographic art which, in the early years of the 20th century, was a popular way of producing art for the masses. This book is a tribute to the wealth of beautiful chromolithograph maritime art cards that were produced at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries featuring ships and maritime scenes.

This was a time when the appearance of ships reflected the elegance of contemporary fashion and the cards were often embellished with impressive art nouveau designs. This book contains one image on each page with a detailed caption beneath, discussing both the merits of the illustration and the ship that is featured. Among the ships featured are those from Elder Dempster, Canadian Pacific, Ellerman, City Lines, Bibby Line, and many more, including some that are less well known.
