Tesla’s new giga-factory: Tesla’s boss Elon Musk (pictured) opened the electric carmaker’s first manufacturing facility in Europe. Giga Berlin (or Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg) was originally announced two years ago, but it has been beset by licensing delays and environmental protests over its high use of water, says James Titcomb in The Daily Telegraph. Two protesters were present at the opening, blocking the road. The €5bn factory is expected to produce an additional 500,000 cars a year when fully operational, around half of the company’s entire output in 2021, and it will employ around 12,000 workers. It should also hopefully take pressure off its other factories in the US and China. Tesla shut its Shanghai factory last week due to Covid-19 cases in China.
