Smoke meets mirrors

In the opening months of 2022, as New Zealand prepared for the arrival of the Government’s Clean Car Standard and Clean Car Discount - AKA the ‘Ute Tax’ - social media was full of conflicting claim and counterclaim about how it would work.

There were wild and dismal predictions about the future of fuels both here and globally.

Disappointingly, many motorists were buying into a campaign of misinformation – or even disinformation – about what was going to happen and what it meant.

Nature hates a vacuum, and for many motorists, the lack of credible information in an easily understood form was the worst vacuum of all.
