Her Real GARDEN

The name Ann-Marie Powell is a familiar one in gardening circles. The garden designer has fronted television programmes, won acclaim for show gardens at Chelsea and is an ambassador for Greenfingers, the charity that creates gardens at children’s hospices. All this alongside her day job: running a busy, award-winning design practice. Two of the gardens around RHS Wisley’s recently opened Hilltop – The Home of Gardening Science are her work: the inventive World Food Garden with its fruit tree screens and curvy beds; and the Wildlife Garden with its generous ponds, contemporary bridges and statement Tom Hare wildlife habitat sculptures. She’s also just won two coveted Society of Garden Designers’ awards for her sophisticated garden at the spa at Sopwell
