ON BAILEY, my father and a boxing writer, passed away on Thursday March 3. He was 91. Ron was born in Crewe and he wrote for during the Fifties and Sixties when Tim Riley and Ron Olver were at the helm. He attended shows at and then became a freelancer. He read from the age of 14 right up until his 90th year. He made many friends throughout the years and would regularly chat on the phone to people like Freddie Mills, Jack 'Kid' Berg, Tommy Farr, Earnie Shavers, Henry Cooper and fight fan Norman Wisdom. He suffered for a long time with dementia before finally catching Covid. Ron died in a care home in Shrewsbury, leaving behind a loving son, Malcolm, and daughter Karen. Rest In Peace, Ron.
