Shooting the messenger

Richard Winkworth has spent most of his career in academia. He is currently a senior lecturer in plant science at Massey University, but was once interviewed for a job at a Crown research institute.

“I was asked whether coming from an academic background, I could cope with working in a corporate environment,” Winkworth says. “My response was: ‘What product does the corporation sell?’ It was clear she did
