For me it was never just about the shooting. I have always had a passion for fieldsports, but I have an equal passion for wildlife and birds in particular. In the nesting season, I would find nests ‘just because’, and yes, of course, as a boy I had an egg collection.
Weekends on the shoot were spent looking for pheasant and grey partridge nests, eggs collected and placed under a broody hen or in a glevum incubator. If the first clutch was collected early, gamebirds would lay again and often a slightly later hatch would enjoy better weather.
