Don’t rest on your laurels with woods

I am continually surprised by the lack of ground cover in some of the woods I see when I am shooting or beating away from home. The poorer ones are usually relatively newly planted hardwood plantations, or mature woods made up of only one or two species that have shaded out the undergrowth.
Sycamore, beech and ash are the main culprits, though with ash dieback spreading across the country at an alarming rate, ash trees are going to be less of a problem in the future. I feel that for now we should probably leave them alone unless they are
